Start by not comparing the headline prices, because on this page they are not measuring the same thing. Chicago Gamespace rents its two floors by the hour and you bring the food, while the Armour Street branch of Altitude sells its cheapest weekday table only over the phone. The two closest to the center pull in opposite directions — City Mini Golf is an outdoor course on the lakefront that shuts for the winter, and Play Street Museum sits across in the South Loop. Elston Electric, Little Adventures on Western and Family Room Chicago on Broadway are among those north and northwest of the center. What varies most is not cost but privacy: some of these bookings hand over the whole place, and others are a roped-off row of tables with the public playing around you.

Everything happens outdoors in Maggie Daley Park, so the forecast decides your party: the course runs April into late October and daily operation depends on the weather. There is no room to retreat into either — the booking is two umbrella-shaded picnic tables beside the course plus a round of the Chicago-landmark holes for each guest. A visitor recommends bug spray, which is fair advice for a summer evening in the park.
What parents name in reviews are the individual stations: the recycling truck, the fire-station slide, the vet with leashes on the toy dogs, the ice-cream cafe. That detail is what holds a three-year-old's attention, and it is why the place reads as a small museum rather than a play floor. The owner and the party hosts come up by name in review after review. Parking in the garage below is validated for two hours.
Call this branch if your guest list is short. The published ladder starts at a ten-jumper minimum, but the price we hold is a weekday five-jumper table that the website does not list, so ask for it by name. Weekdays are also when the floor empties: a reviewer describes a weekday session feeling like a private party, while two others warn the weekend gets packed.
Check the kid rules before you commit. This is an arcade bar whose own FAQ welcomes children until 10pm and goes 21+ after that, but a family who drove over were turned away at 6pm because a concert was on. Party bookings are a roped-off block of tables on the arcade floor rather than a room, with the public playing around you, and the figure you must clear is a minimum spend.
The party reviews here land on the same thing over and over: the owner sets up, and in several accounts cleans up afterwards too — in one case for a family who arrived five minutes before their guests did. It is a small floor that suits the under-fives, and the birthdays described here are overwhelmingly first and second ones. Open play stops for the summer and private parties run Saturdays and Sundays, so this is a weekend booking.
You book this one by the hour through its Peerspace listing and bring your own everything, food included: no package, no host, no catering. It is a small two-floor video-game museum run as a nonprofit, where everything on both floors is on free play. The parents who held a ninth and a tenth birthday here both describe kids who would not leave the machines. Scan the floor first, though, because Mortal Kombat sits along from Duck Hunt.
Book this one for the coffee. Reviewers keep naming the actual drink they ordered: mango matcha, a flat white, a vanilla latte. The calm front room stays open to the public while your party has the play zone at the back, so the adults get something better than a vending machine. Outside food and juice are welcome; alcohol, glass and outside coffee are not.
Price this one carefully. Every package is published at three rates — non-member, house member and a signature tier — so what you pay turns on whether you hold a membership, and the figure beside this listing is the non-member one. The cheapest tier is a reserved court inside a shared building rather than a space of your own. One family had their party absorbed at short notice after another venue cancelled on them.
This one suits a child who would rather climb than feed tokens into a machine — one parent watched her eight-year-old ignore the laser tag, bumper cars and arcade entirely in favor of the walls. Ask which of the nine party rooms you are getting: only two are fully enclosed and the other seven are semi-open. Reviewers on separate visits found attractions out of order, so confirm what is running.
A booking comes with a second room for the adults, a lounge with a couch, beside the party room where the children sit — plus a hallway store for shoes and one parking spot kept by the side door. Bring your own food, drinks and decorations; staff clear up afterwards. The play floor stays open to the public, with numbers kept below the maximum. One parent credits their host with helping from weeks ahead right through to the clean-up.
