The same complaint arrives here from too many different people to dismiss: things are broken, and the place needs a deep clean. One family who have been coming for over two years say the same exhibits have been out of order the whole time, and name the train as the worst offender. Others describe dust on a crawling child's clothes, a picnic area that is rarely clean, and a general worn-ness. Several are long-standing visitors rather than one-time critics, which is what gives it weight.

What survives that is still worth the admission. The outdoor half is the part people write about with real warmth - a mock farmers' market where children pick fruit and vegetables off the stands, a grass maze, a sunflower and pollinator patch, a sandbox, a sensory swing area, and little bikes and carts to drag about. Indoors, the toddler zone has a quiet nook built into the trunk of a play tree, and sensory backpacks holding noise-cancelling headphones, a weighted blanket, dark glasses and fidget toys can be borrowed at the welcome desk against your ID.

It works best from two to about eight and thins out quickly above that. Adults pay the same rate as children, which is what most of the grumbling about cost is actually about: two parents double the bill before a single child is counted. Check the field-trip calendar on the website before picking a weekday - one regular plans her visits around it, and a school group changes the character of the building completely.
